Knocked Out Teeth

Knocked out teeth are some of the most common dental emergencies, especially among children and athletes. If you or your child loses all or part of a tooth, you should contact us immediately. With swift treatment, our doctor may be able to save the natural tooth, placing it back in the socket. Before coming into the office, you should carefully wash off your tooth without touching the dental roots. If you can do so without undue discomfort, place the tooth back in your mouth and gently bite down to hold it in place. If this is not possible, store it in a container of saliva or milk, and bring it with you to the office. If your knocked out tooth is causing you discomfort, a cold compress or over-the-counter pain medication can help to keep you comfortable before your appointment.

Though Dr. Paulos will always try to replace your natural tooth, in some cases, this may not be possible. At your initial appointment, he will ease your discomfort. Then the dentist can help you decide on an appropriate restorative treatment. A dental bridge will attach to the adjacent teeth, and the custom-made restoration will fill in the gap in your smile. Our dentist can also collaborate with an oral surgeon to provide dental implants.

Severe Toothache

If you are suffering from a severe toothache, we will end your pain as soon as possible. In many cases, toothaches are the result of dental infection. Infection can develop when bacteria get inside the soft inner pulp of your teeth, travelling down your nerves to infect your root canals. Root canal therapy is typically the only way to save infected teeth. Though often considered a highly uncomfortable procedure, our dentist provides very gentle treatment, which will greatly ease your existing discomfort.

Before your root canal, dentist will numb your tooth and gums. Then the dentist will create a tiny opening in the top or back of your tooth. This access point will allow the dentist to clean out your tooth and root canals. Dentist will fill it with a soft compound called gutta percha, which will seal your tooth so that bacteria cannot get back inside. Then our dentist will take impressions, and the lab will create a custom dental crown. In the interim, Dr. Osman will provide a temporary crown, and when the final restoration is finished, he will attach it to your tooth. You should experiences significant relief from your toothache after the first part of your treatment.

In some cases, you may have a toothache because of a smaller cavity that has not affected the pulp of your tooth. In these situations, our dentist will place a dental filling. Instead of traditional silver amalgam, our dentist proudly uses tooth-colored composite. This material is virtually as strong as metal, but it will not affect the color of your smile.

Emergency Cosmetic Work

Even if a broken or cracked tooth does not cause significant discomfort, it can be considered an emergency, since it will greatly detract from the look of your smile.  If you or a child has a broken tooth, you should rinse off the broken piece and store it in milk or saliva. When you bring it with you to the office, Dr. Paulos may be able to attach the piece back on to your tooth with composite resin. If you have a smaller chip, the dentist may perform cosmetic bonding, simply filling in the space with composite. Our dentist will carefully shape the material so that it has a smooth, lifelike finish. Bonding can restore the look of your smile in a single day.
