First Aid While You Travel
We'll walk you through any immediate steps to take at home — such as rinsing with warm salt water, applying a cold compress, or storing a knocked-out tooth.

These steps can help manage pain and prevent further damage before you reach our office. They are not a substitute for professional care — call us first.
Knocked-out tooth
Hold by the crown, rinse gently, keep moist in milk or saliva, and call us within 60 minutes.
Toothache
Rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to remove debris, and take OTC pain reliever. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum.
Cracked tooth
Rinse with warm water, apply a cold compress to reduce swelling, and avoid chewing on that side.
Lost crown
Keep the crown if possible. Dental cement from a pharmacy can temporarily re-seat it. Call us for a same-day appointment.
Abscess or swelling
Rinse with mild salt water several times a day. Do not apply heat. Call us immediately — this can become serious quickly.
Soft tissue injury
Apply gentle pressure with clean gauze to control bleeding. If bleeding doesn't stop after 15 minutes, go to an emergency room.
